So I'm finally starting this blog after having it vacant for nearly 6 months. I should have began when my daughter was born in April, but being busy and stressed doesn't suit my writing well. Realizing I have no written memories of my baby, I felt guilty and knew I had to start. The real kicker? Erev Yom Kippur, when my daughter was just a week over 6 months old, I got a positive pregnancy test. No, this was not planned, and yes this was a total shock. But I know if I don't write my thoughts down now, I won't have any time once number two comes. So here goes...
A House Full of Sickness

Today was not a good day. It began last night, when I suspected Katie had some sort of stomach virus. (I'm not going into details about how or why I suspected this...) I also felt myself coming down with a cold. Fast forward to this morning and Katie was still sick. Only difference was that I, too, apparently had a stomach virus and my cold had developed into a really nasty one. About 12pm my husband starts feeling sick in his stomach, and by 2 pm Katie is starting to cough and sneeze. By the end of Shabbos we were just one big sick mess.

Katie was having difficulty breathing so I pulled out the aspirator, or as I call it, the squeegee. But every time I approached her nose she started fussing, and if I managed to reach my target she cried hysterically. So I gave up because I knew she was in enough pain already. Good thing my husband was able to run out and buy baby tylenol cold medicine, baby vicks vapor rub, and a humidifier, because like good parents we had none of these items onhand. We doped Katie up, and after a bunch of smiles-- and then a bunch of screaming and crying-- I held her down, gave her a final squeegee and thankfully she's out like a light (even if it was 4 hours after her normal bedtime.)

I'm happy to report it seems like the stomach bug has made its way out of my household. Now let's just hope these colds pass.
